Puff The Magic Dragon.MOV

Sing along with me ... Puff the magic dragon lived by the sea And frolicked in the autumn mist In a land called Honah-Lee Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal Puff And brought him strings and sealing wax And other fancy stuff. Oh! (CHORUS) Puff the magic dragon lived by the sea And frolicked in the autumn mist In a land called Honah-Lee Puff the magic dragon lived by the sea And frolicked in the autumn mist In a land called Honah Lee Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail. Jackie kept a lookout perched on Puff's gigantic tail. Noble kings and princes would bow when 'ere they came. Pirate ships would low'r their flags when Puff roared out his name. Oh! (CHORUS) A dragon lives for-ever but not so little boys. Painted wings and giants rings make way for other toys One grey night it happened Jackie Paper came no more And PUFF that mighty dragon he ceased his fearless roar. His head was bent in sorrow green scales fell like rain. Puff no longer went to play a-long the cherry lane. With-out his lifelong friend Puff could not be brave So Puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. Oh! (CHORUS)

Baby Nursery Decoration - Window Treatments With Style

Window decor is essential in completing baby's nursery decor. Curtains, swags, panel, toppers, valances -- call them what you will, they each can add a beautiful touch to your little one's space.

Consider your nursery bedding theme first. Is there a particular pattern or color you would like to use as an accent for window treatments? Does your bedding set come with a selection of window treatments used in order to enhance or offset the baby nursery decoration theme? This option can be the easiest and less time-consuming. Many nursery bedding sets have simple panels, tab-top valances and other wonderful styles from which to choose.

Make-it-yourself options can be fun and imaginative as well as cost effective. The following ideas can be tailored to your baby's nursery decor:

Sew-it-yourself: Use store bought coordinating fabric or coordinating baby crib sheets to fashion a simple

valance or panel.

Ribbons: Hang a row of different colored ribbons from curtain rod (vary width and length of ribbons).

Swag: Use a coordinating piece of fabric draped over a curtain rod.

Shelves: Shelves with narrow widths can be hung directly over windows and used to display toys, collectibles, etc. Shelves can be lined with a piece of cloth that hangs over edge about 6-8 inches to create a topper.

Another idea is to focus on a theme and pull out an accent color or object to use as a window topper. See the following list of ideas:

Pirate or Cowboy Theme: Use a pirate flags or bandannas draped over or tied to the curtain rod.
Baseball Theme: Attach variety of baseball caps in a row or on end to enhance existing curtains.
Girl's Theme: Tulle or sheer fabric is beautiful when placed or draped with flair over curtain rods.

It can be fun and creative to think about all the options for window decor. Baby nursery decoration ideas are limitless when deciding on the best window treatments for your baby's nursery.

Summer Outdoor Theme Parties

Traditional English summer garden parties, or barbeques are normally relaxed affair's, with everyone bringing a bottle or two, and food cooking on the barbeque. But how to turn this, into more of a theme party?

Well let's first take a look at the types of themes, which may suit: - Australian, Beach party, Roman or Toga party.

Now each of these themes is pretty easy to set up, with the aid of a few props or party decorations. Let's take a look at each theme party in turn.

Australian theme party

Great for those who like a lot of fun with their party themes.

With corked hats, and few inflatable kangaroos, you have the beings of a great Australian theme party. Add in a little Australian bunting and hey presto your theme is all put together. Now for food you could always try serving some kangaroo or emu burgers. Shrimps and fresh fruit too are great added to this type of party buffet too. Just whack them on the Barbie.

Beach theme party.

Sand or at least a sand pit helps this party theme. It's a great for those who have to keep the whole family entertained. As you can hire a Punch and Judy show to keep the little one amused, or bouncy castle, not to mention the sand pit.

Flags and bunting look great as it adds colour to a large area, especially if you can get hold of some beach party bunting. Beach balls, fish, net's, boats, bucket and spades all can add to the atmosphere.

For this party buffet, anything goes, from picnic fare up to fish and chips.

Roman or Toga theme party.

This can be a feast and a great celebration. This type of party is ideal for large numbers of people.
White sheets, laurel leaf headdresses are the order of the day here. The more rich fabric you throw at this party the better it will look.

Gazebos can be set up, with piles of cushions which guest can laze about on. Fountains, statues, and the odd Greek column help to create this theme. You can, if time allows make some Greek columns with a little chicken wire and paper mache (Just remember to weigh the bottom of the column down with a lump of concrete; otherwise you will spend your time, picking the column up again.) Vines, grapes and jugs of wine can add atmosphere. You could also add some Italian bunting to set the scene although not strictly roman, it will help to decorate your party space.

With the buffet whole roast suckling pigs, grapes, pomegranates, mince wrapped in vine-leaves are the order of the day, as too are oysters. This is not a party to do on a small budget, as everything needs to look expensive, and you need to have lots of food.

Entertainment should come in the shape of dancing slaves and Roman music, I would try to avoid holding gladiator battles, far too messy not to mention expensive. At your Roman or toga party anything should go, entertainment wise.

Cruise theme party.

The best thing about the cruise party theme is it can be held indoor at short notice if the weather turn's bad. All you need for this party is colourful flags, portholes, seagulls, anchors and rum. It's up to you whether you are at sea or near a port. If your at a port you could simply add in things for that location. Such as Hawaiian leis, and coconuts etc. to set the scene.

Navy blazers, and white shorts or trousers are the order of the day, with of course a ships captain. Cruise food can be anything you like. But the table centre needs to be a great display of food artfully arranged. Other than that the world is your lobster.

Collections - Why Do People Collect Things?

There were seashells everywhere. The room was furnished with couches and chairs with a seashell pattern on the upholstery. There were lamps with shades covered with shells. Sculptures made of shells and books about seashells sat on the tables. Family photos in seashell- encrusted frames lined the shelves. A curio cabinet was filled with more shells. I was visiting the home of a new acquaintance. She collects seashells. A special room in her home was dedicated to shells. There were shells from all over the world everywhere in that room. Even the business card she gave me was decorated with a photo of a large shell.

People have a natural tendency to collect things. Seashells may not be their passion but whether its coins, stamps, postcards, spoons, or more bizarre things like teabags, chocolate bar wrappers or traffic signs we human beings seem inclined to be collectors. Dr. Steve Anderson, a neurologist at the University of Iowa says our need to collect may harken back to an earlier point in our evolution, since many animals hoard things, especially food.

According to Susan Pearce, author of the book Interpreting Objects and Collections one in three North Americans collects something. There are many different kinds of collections and collectors.

Some collections are souvenirs or mementos of a place. I once visited the home of a couple who collect masks every time they travel. One wall of their dining room is covered with traditional painted masks from South Africa, Egypt, Vietnam, the Philippines and dozens of other places. When they are on a trip they never have to stop and think about what to buy as a souvenir. They just look for a mask to add to their collection.

Some collections are gifts. I know a man who gives his mother a china plate every Mother's Day with a message or saying about mothers on it. He hunts through antique stores and curio shops, often for weeks, until he finds a plate and a design that he hasn't already purchased. His mother has more than twenty such plates in her collection.

Some collections are of practical use. I have friends who are world travelers and collect Starbucks Coffee mugs from every place they visit. There are Starbucks franchises in more than forty countries. Our friends don't have forty different mugs but certainly enough for a fairly large group of coffee drinking guests.

The desire to learn new things can also be the impetus behind a collection. I know someone who collects military artifacts from the World Wars. He has uniforms, machinery, vehicles, sheet music, maps, books, flags and photographs. His collection has helped him learn a great deal about military history.

Some people collect things because of their monetary value. I used to work with a woman who collected Barbie Dolls. She assured me someday she would sell her collection and make a mint of money.

Susan Pearce says there are some collections which she terms 'magic'. There is no rhyme or reason for collecting them but they have a certain appeal or attraction for the collector. I imagine this might apply to a collection of snow globes or a large collection of Superman memorabilia.

Collections can remind us of positive experiences and important people in our lives. They can help us learn new things. They can be practical or magical. If you're not a collector you might want to think about becoming one. Collections can enrich our lives.

History of Treasure Island, Florida

An island off the coast of St. Petersburg, Florida, the barrier island community of Treasure Island proudly boasts some of the most beautiful, white sandy beaches in Florida. Originally inhabited by the Timucua Indians around 300 CE, the island and its people were nearly destroyed in 1528 by Pánfilo de Narváez. The area would not see another human for quite some time.

In the 1800s, Frenchman John Levique, a pirate, was said to have buried treasure on the uninhibited land. He would escape to the island several times to hide out from his enemies, including one night 1848, when Hurricane Gale swept through the island.

Levique awoke to see that the spot of his buried treasure had succumbed to storm surge, with the island's north end now separated from it, creating a pass. In honor of the man who discovered it, the pass became known as "John's Pass." The hurricane also split off two separate, small islands - Isle of Palms and Isle of Capri.

Levique's existence and that of the actual treasure is widely disputed, with some saying the 'treasure' was actually an attempt by property owners to attract visitors to the quiet fishing village, which at the time, was only accessible by boat. Either way, the name "Treasure Island" stuck.

The first hotel; on the island, called the "Coney Island" was built in 1915 by Whiteford Harrell. Soon vacationers traveled to the area, but were frustrated about the limited access to the island. The John's Pass Bridge was built in 1927 to connect Madeira Beach to the island, but vacationers still experienced difficulty coming from St. Petersburg.

In 1938 the Treasure Island Causeway was built to accommodate people traveling from St. Petersburg. The causeway provided automobile access from the city to the island, which attracted celebrities and other dignitaries including Babe Ruth, who purchased a waterfront vacation home after his retirement from baseball in 1935.

Following the end of World War II in 1947, two more hotels sprouted up along the beach, and nearby St. Pete Beach, where the Don Cesar Hotel, formerly known as "The Pink Lady," famously entertained Al Capone, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Lou Gehrig, and Franklin D. Roosevelt.

In the 1950s, the area saw a residential housing boom, and in 1955 the city of Treasure Island was incorporated. Homes and waterfront neighborhoods were built on top of dredged material, which connected Isle of Capri and Isle of Palms to the main island.

Because of Treasure Island's strong residential ties and quiet beaches, the area today is a premiere year-round vacation destination for families. Families can rent either Treasure Island Rental Condos or like the Great Bambino did, a beachfront home.

Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo

Ixtapa is a natural paradise, and for this reason it was distinctively chosen by the Mexican government to become a hot spot tourist heaven; and on a minor scale, it was also chosen by Patawalk as a virtual tour destination. The history of this place is very straightforward, at one point, Ixtapa used to be a coconut plantation, but in 1968 the government along with one of Mexico's wealthiest banks planned and constructed what is now a tourist resort. As you'll see the city is organized in a very meticulous manner, the blocks are huge and conspicuously fashioned in odd shapes. As further proof of Ixtapa's purpose as a tourist destination is the over five thousand hotel room and villas available to the public. Most of the hotels here belong to well-known international chains, and can be found within the 2-mile long hotel strip.

The name Ixtapa comes from the Nahuatl language and it means, "The White Place." Upon laying eyes on the beautiful and quite pristine beaches of Ixtapa, you'll know why it was called "The White Place." Regardless of which beach you visit, you'll notice that all of these have sands as white as snow and oh, so fine and soft! Also, the city is constantly maintained, so its cleanliness really stands out.

As a hot-spot for tourists, Ixtapa provides tourists with a vast array of activities. Here you can enjoy anything from beach volleyball, horse-back riding, shopping, snorkeling, parachuting, scuba diving, to surfing and everything else in between.

One of Ixtapa's main beaches is El Palmar, which offers a variety of water sports including surfing and swimming. A nearby attraction is La Mariana de Ixtapa which has the capacity to dock over 100 yatchs and it even has a golf course! Another interesting and fun-filled must-do activity in Ixtapa is parachuting. Here, you can take a parachute ride which allows you to truly take in the entire city and the surrounding areas. If you're looking for something much more exhilarating and a total adrenaline rush, then take the plunge or should I say drop off a plane and skydive. Another popular Ixtapa beach is Linda Playa (Beautiful Beach) and it truly honors its name. This beach is in the northern part of Ixtapa and unlike most other beaches this one features not only a pier where you can visit a nearby island but at the entrance of the pier you can see a small swamp with real-life alligators, whoa! Horseback riding is readily available at this particular beach. Playa Quieta (Calm Beach) is another excellent beach. Although only one mile long, this beach is definitely calm and peaceful; it is the perfect spot to truly relax.

Aside from all the entertainment in the beaches, the city of Ixtapa offers other options. For instance, if you'd like to take a break from the beach but still want to have aquatic fun, then you must go to Magic World. This is an aquatic recreation park, something like an aquatic theme park. You'll find a pool with waves (which mimics the ocean), water slides for all ages and levels of expertise, and even a pirate ship. Ever heard of swimming with the fishes? Well, at Delfinti you can. Here you are offered the opportunity of a lifetime, to swim with the Dolphins and you can even have your young child do so too. Enjoy a little of the wilderness by going to Parque Aventura (Adventure Park) where you can walk through trees on a hanging bridge or a zip-line. These are things you can only see in the movies, so why not experience it in real life?

But not all activities are reserved for the day. Ixtapa proudly boasts of an active and fun-filled nightlife too. The night is always young in Ixtapa and you can find it all in the boulevard and surrounding areas. Let me recommend Christine Club Ixtapa, which offers a wealth of music and is the perfect combination of all kinds of vibrant music; so dress to impress. Something more informal and perfect for you no matter your age is the classic Senor Frogs.

If you're in the mood for some shopping then go downtown. Ixtapa has a boulevard dedicated to all kinds of shopping centers and specialty stores. Whatever it is you're looking for, be it a leather coat, silver jewelry, or a simple ornament, you'll surely find it here. But one thing you must surely buy is a world-famous "hamaca" (hammock). Interestingly, this lounging invention is native to this state. Another staple of this state that you must acquire is a pair of "huaraches," which are handmade leather sandals.

Before you start packing that two-piece bikini and that sunscreen, first come take the virtual tour at Patawalk!

Treasure Hunting For Star Garnets

India and Idaho are the only two places in the world that star garnets are found. They range in size from a grain of sand to golf ball in size. Star Garnets display a reflection of the light with a four or six ray star, which is caused by an inclusion of rutile in the gemstone. Idaho is the only known place where six ray star garnets are found.

The U.S. Forest Service operates a star garnet gemstone collection area at Emerald Creek Idaho. For a fee of $10 per day the treasure hunter can search for garnets and remove a maximum of five pounds of gemstones. Screen boxes, buckets and shovels are provided by the Forest Service; however you should bring drinking water, snacks, sunscreen, hat, gloves and a container for your treasures. The treasure hunting season starts at the end of May and lasts until after Labor Day. No pets allowed.

How Is It Done

Use the shovel and fill your five gallon plastic bucket with dirt and rocks at the mining area. Next take your bucket to the screening area and sift all of the dirt and sand leaving only the rocks. Next take your collection of rocks to one of the two sluice boxes to wash the material and look for garnets. Any rock that appears to have a shiny plastic like shine could be a garnet.

The garnets found at emerald creek are nearly opaque and will be a dark reddish or purple in color. Good quality large gemstones are rare and about one half of the gemstones you discover will not be of a quality suitable for cutting or polishing. Many of the stones will show a four ray star but the six ray star is quite rare. A good quality star garnet may fetch up to $100 per carat.

The garnet name is believed to have come from the pomegranate. Many of the ancient pieces of jewelry have clusters of red stones that do look a lot like a cluster of pomegranate seeds. Travelers often carried garnets to protect them from accidents. Legends suggest that garnets will glow at night and will protect the owner from nightmares. Noah has also been rumored to have used a garnet lantern to navigate the Ark at night.

Happy Treasure Hunting.

Five Ideas For Creating Fun Wooden Crafts Out of Dowel Rods

Five Ideas for the Simple Wood Dowel

When one looks at a wood dowel, often times they do not think much of it. A race of ideas and crafts do not often spring into most people's minds when they see a piece of wood. However, for a select few, these ideas do come and the knowledge of how to construct their ideas becomes easy to learn. These people are wood crafters. They are followers of the older ideas that one can create their own toys, decorations, and furniture. These people can create great things with a simple wood dowel and a little work.

When a wood crafter looks at a wood dowel, they see a million ideas. These people are wood working aficionados. They see wood not as just wood, but as a medium to bring their ideas into reality. These people are artists and workers at the same time. Here is a sample of those great ideas that a simple round, wood dowel has created.

1. Beaded curtains. These curtains have a fine thread running from the wood dowel to whatever length is desired. The fine thread is then used to thread beads, creating curtain of the beads, hence the beaded curtain. These beads can also be used to create designs in the curtain by matching colors to a certain pattern.

2. Flag posts. Home owners and some apartment renters tend to decorate their homes on the inside and out with flags. These can be everything from silly flags used for solely decoration to the patriotic, American flag. No matter what flags are hung, the thicker wood dowels are most often used because they have such great strength and beauty.

3. Toy wands. Every aspiring princess and wizard of the day has to have his or her own wand. To meet this need, the wooden dowel can be utilized and decorated to match the personalities of the children while still making the toy affordable. Ribbons, feathers, and glitter can all be added to the wand to add to the individuality of the piece.

4. Yoyo centers. Yoyos are one of America's all time favorite toys. The simple construction of the yoyo, paired with the ease of use and fun actions of the yoyo all make it a classic toy. The simple wood dowel makes the perfect center in which to construct the yoyo and to attach the string.

5. Shelf railings. Shelves are a necessary part of life. Some of these shelves hold precious ornaments and heirlooms. Many times these shelves have railings on them. For those who are constructing their own shelves, the wood dowel can be used to make for an interesting and unique railing on the shelf.

These ideas are just the tip of the iceberg of ideas for the wood dowel. Imagine what you may come up with using only a little creativity and a wood dowel. You just might have that perfect idea for that perfect piece of art. You also might have the beginnings of the next craze in ideas and wood crafting.

Pirate Theme Wedding Reception Ideas - A Whole Treasure Chest Full of Them!

Well blow me down! You are actually thinking of planning a wedding reception with a pirate theme? Arrrgghh! Well, after all, with the huge box-office smash Pirates of the Caribbean, the pirate theme reception has sparked new interest, of late. And by pillaging and plundering around, it will be really easy to steal yourself some great tips for your party! Below I have categorized most of every aspect of a wedding reception, through the eye patch of a pirate.

INVITATIONS - For starters, the wedding invitations need to live the gimmick. Print them up on antique looking paper-stock, or age the paper yourself by cooking it on a cookie sheet. For the intro, start with an eye-catcher like,"Ahoy! Come walk the plank" or, "Shake your Pirate booty!" Chart a course to your reception with location, time and date in the form of a treasure map. If you want to be REALLY creative and can afford a little extra postage, go to the dollar store and put the map-like invitation into bottles with corks and mail them out!

Any Pirate reception invitation will look more authentic when printed on tan paper at the edges, and maybe made wet with coffee or tea stains. This is normal. You can literally dip each invitation into tea or coffee water and then let it dry to make each invitation look antiquated with age. The older they look, the more convincing they are! You can also add some sand and little tiny decorative seashells or gold covered chocolate coins to each invitation.

COSTUMES - Guests invited in costumes... You gotta do it! Nuff said!

PLACE CARDS - On each of the place cards, you can opt to write each guest's name by adding "Pirate" or "Buccaneer" before their name (for example: "Pirate Paul" or "Buccaneer Bob"). You can also make up Pirate-related sounding names like "Peg-Leg Pete", "Captain Carrie," "Long-Tooth Larry", "Blind-Eye Barbie", "Scarface Sammy", "Dirty Dog Donny", and so on and so forth.

GUEST BOOK - You can also have your whole guest population sign their good luck wishes in a book with a huge feather pen... Or how about on a real Pirate flag, posted to the wall. If it's a typical Jolly Roger flag with the white skull and crossbones on a black flag, it's best to use a white-out, fabric pen or one of those metallic silver pens for their writing. These can then be attached to feather sticks and left on the tables.

DECORATIONS -To decorate your hall, you know what to do, matey. Think about sailing the sea! You can use anything from sand and sea shells, to bowls of live gold fish. Also, remember to hang pirate flags and fishing nets all around the reception, for that extra finishing touch.

For that scary "One-eyed Pete" pirate atmosphere, make sure to take out some of your Halloween decorations like cobwebs, and skeletons. On a skeleton you can put an eye patch around it's head, a bandanna and/or hoop earring, color a few of the teeth with a gold marker, and hang Mardi Gras bead necklaces around the neck.

GUEST TABLES - It would also fun to disperse those gold foil-wrapped chocolate coins, plastic jewels, and a bit of sand and seashells onto your tables. You can also use fishing nets over any kind of tablecloth for your tables. Stick rubber fish, seahorses, plastic oyster shells, lobsters and crabs in the fish net.

PIRATE BOAT PICTURE BOOTH - Picture booths are HUGE at weddings now. Now add pirate theme, and BANG! You have a Kodak moment in the making. Have each of your guests pose as a Pirate at a ship wheel with some kind of mast or pirate flag in the background. (If Uncle Jerry didn't come in costume, remember to have extra pirate hats or bandannas around.) Make sure to have each guest ham it up and say, "Aaaargh" while posing for the shot.

If you are creative, you can also make a whole Pirate ship out of cardboard. You'll need a few refrigerator boxes. Use a hot glue gun and/or duct tape to attach everything together is probably your best bet. It won't take much, just decorate the Pirate ship with a Pirate flag, a mast, a plank (just a piece of long cardboard) and you should be good to go.

MUSIC - Music will really help the atmosphere and set the mood to your pirate wedding reception. You can either have the DJ mix in music from any kind of Pirate movie you can think of, or throw in an occasional Peter Pan track, or Jimmy Buffet. (Just make sure to only do it here and there between good songs, to add to the flavor.)

GAMES AND ACTIVITIES - should be lots of fun for everyone, if many guests arrive in costume. You can add pirates to any line dance with instant success. Also, you can try some kind of pirate Scavenger Hunt, or something to do with walking a plank, or picking something up with a hook set to music.

CANDY TABLE - BOOTY BAGS -You have seen the candy tables, right? When the reception is over, thank your guests for coming with booty bags filled with goofy prizes pirate booty such as toy compasses, foil-wrapped candy coins, or other treasures.

FOOD - Good seafood, of course, needs to be at least one of the choices! Ask your caterer on this one.

BEVERAGES - Pirates love their bottles of rum. It won't be a pirate-theme without beverages inside real sweet treasure chests. If you're not up to making your own treasure chest, here are a few really nice Treasure Chests can be found online. You can, however, easily make your own. Take a Styrofoam cooler and paint it brown. You can use gold ribbon to trim the lid and the base of the chest. Then take craft foam and glue panels on to the center of the lid in the front and the other directly below to make the lock. Around the treasure chests, throw around your gold chocolate coins, gummy fish, Starburst candies (they look like little treasures), colored beaded necklaces and whatever cool treasures you can find. Then add the ultimate treasure, beverage bottles that only pirates would like. (Maybe Pete's wicked Ale?)

PUNCH BOWL - Serve your sea faring guests grog or bumboo, made with Caribbean coconut rum for the adults and make soda based for the kids, from the bowls marked with or without an "XXX".

PIRATE LANGUAGE LIST - You may wish to name your tables, or just have pirate language printed out for people to get into the spirit. Here's a list full of Pirate phrases that could liven up the party:
Avast! (Hey!)
Aye (another way to say - "Yes!")
Ahoy, me Hearties! (just like saying - Hello, my friends)
Blow me down! (expression of shock, disbelief, strong emotion, surprise)
Booty (treasure)
Buccaneer (a Pirate)
Dead men tell no tales (expression indicating to leave no survivors)
Fair winds! (goodbye, good luck!)Thar' she blows! (whale sighting)
Grog (generally, any alcoholic drink Pirate's drink)
Grub (food)
Heave Ho (give it some strength and muscle)
Jolly Roger (a Pirate's flag - one with a white skull and crossbones over black)
Lookout (someone posted to keep watch on the horizon for signs of land or other ships)
Swab the deck (to clean the deck)
Shiver me timbers! (expression of shock, disbelief, strong emotion, surprise)
Sea-dog (an experienced sea-man)
Me (my)
Me Hearties (a typical way for a Pirate to address his crew)
Shark bait (foes)
Sail ho! (I see a ship!)
Shipshape (well organized, finished, under control...)
Yo-ho-ho (something Pirate's tend to say, whether it actually means anything or not)

Have fun with whatever you do, and don't be afraid to be different. Non-traditional wedding receptions are the ones people always remember, and isn't that the point?

Face Painting - An Introduction

Body painting is a common form of application of colours, drawing, and painting of pictures on human body. It is an art in which, the human body is used as a medium for paint. There are different reasons for body painting, and a type of body painting is face painting. Face painting is the artistic application of colours, drawings, and paints on face. Face painters and artist use paints to decorate their faces, to show their feelings, or desires through painting on their faces. This is done using the water based cosmetic paints, and it has become a very common activity for different parties, celebrations, and events.

For many centuries, people have used face painting for different purposes including military, religious, and hunting. The activity and art became popular when in 1960s many women started painting flags, or symbols on their cheeks for promoting peace during different anti-war protests. We can say that the use of make up on face for decorating and adding colour is also closely related to this art.

Face print is also used in different profession. For example at a circus, it is a very important part of the costume. The clowns and actors paint their faces smiley, or like different characters to entertain. The activity of using face-painting for entertainment is very common in Europe, and it can be seen at different fairs, and open-air markets for attracting children, and adolescents.

Face picture is taken as a part of an outfit when it comes to parties, and celebrations. It is a very common activity at a festival or a children party where the children get their faces painted like their favourite characters. The art makes them feel like a real cat, fairy, prate, clown, dog, or any other character that they want to be.

Popular face-painting ideas, and designs among the youngsters that they use for birthday parties, Halloween, or themed parties are tiger, clown, super hero like spider-man, Dalmatian dog, cat, fairy pirate, etc. There are different types of face picture designs, and ideas, and all depends on their use. The main purpose is however to attract, and get attention of the people.

It is used as a cosmetic for dramas, acts, plays, etc especially if someone is wearing an animal costume. The painting on the face makes the person look like the actual animal, and makes him/her feel like a real animal character. Sometimes a part of the face is painted, and sometimes the complete face, neck, and other parts of the body are painted.

The use of face work of art can be seen in different sports events when people paint the flags of their favourite countries, or symbols showing the team they are supporting. Painting a country flag shows the patriotism of the person while sometimes it shows the loyalty, and support of the person towards a specific team. Soldiers also use face painting, camouflage technique is a common example. Other professions that use face picture are wrestling and circus where they draw different symbols to convey different messages.

Some Ways To Celebrate Veterans Day

This Veterans Day will be a time you can really use to honor those who have served in the armed forces during times of war. Certainly going into service is a duty and can be a heavy weight to bear under stress. Many of those celebrated on this day each year have been in war and have seen what it can do, so they're memories and experiences serve as valuable reminders and reasons why we should all be aware of their sacrifices.

How can you appropriately honor this effort put forth during war? Most veterans will say you can honor them by remembering, spending time during this day with them or going to one of the many memorials around the country. You can easily pick up some flowers or go and freshen up a gravesite. Even if you go to a site commemorating one of the wars long past you'll be celebrating this Veterans Day appropriately.

If you have living relatives who are veterans surprise them with a party in their honor. Create a guest list with all their pals and relatives on it and hold the party in a large outdoor area so everyone can enjoy the air. Those with large numbers of guests coming to their parties can turn it into a potluck and tell guests to bring samplings of their own favorite foods to give all a chance to try new things. You'll be able to provide paper supplies themed after Veterans Day that feature the nation's flag or a view of the armed forces. You may need lots of cups and plates for the affair because guests tend to throw them out after one use.

However you choose to celebrate this special day, the most important element is taking a little time to remember what it's all about.

The Duel That Changed American History

The most famous duel fought on American soil was undoubtedly that between sitting Vice President Aaron Burr and Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton. It was a duel that very likely changed the course of American history.

Aaron Burr was a hero of the American Revolution, a brilliant man and an astute politician, with many friends in high places. Whether or not he carried the 1800 election, it is likely he'd have had a great deal more influence in the course of American affairs, if not for that fateful duel.

Alexander Hamilton was co-author of The Federalist Papers and one of the founding fathers of the new republic on the American continent. A senior aide to General Washington during the fighting, he commanded three battalions at Yorktown. He served in the Continental Congress, was the new country's first Secretary of the Treasury and a signer of the Constitution. He quickly became one of its foremost authorities on constitutional interpretation, possibly the first American constitutional lawyer.

Who can say what contributions these two brilliant and capable men might have made to the new republic, and what path its history might have taken, if not for the fateful duel that ended in the death of one and the disgrace of the other?

The quarrel between the two men began during the bitterly contested election of 1800. After a tied election in which Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr each received 73 electoral votes, it became the task of the House of Representatives to finally decide--after the casting of thirty-six separate ballots--that Thomas Jefferson would be president, and Aaron Burr Vice President.

It was rumored at the time that Hamilton had more than a little to do with Burr's being denied the Presidency, working behind the scenes to ensure his defeat. But it wasn't until 1804--when Burr was defeated in his bid to become governor of New York--that he challenged Hamilton to a duel, supposedly over insulting statements Hamilton had made at a dinner party they both attended.  Various accounts have called Hamilton "suicidal" for agreeing to the duel, and Burr "homicidal" for issuing the challenge. Still other scholars are of the opinion that both these statements were true.

In any case, the pair apparently went to great lengths to avoid the appearance of illegality. Since duelling had been outlawed in New York, the Burr and Hamilton parties rowed across the Hudson River in separate boats to a site known as the Heights of Weehawken, a river landing beneath the New Jersey Palisades which had become a popular duelling site of the day. The pistols were transported inside a traveling case, and the oarsmen instructed stand with their backs to the duelers, so that any called to testify would be able to swear, under oath, that they had seen no pistols. However these precautions were probably for naught, given the outcome, and the prominence of the duellers.

The duel was fought with a pair of pistols made by London gunsmiths Wogden and Barton. The pistols had been used in several previous duels, including another involving Aaron Burr, and one in which Hamilton's son, Phillip, was killed in 1801--which may have been a factor in Hamilton's fatally odd behavior during his duel with Burr.

Hamilton's shot went high in the air--whether from deliberate "throwing" of his shot, an accidental discharge caused by the weapon's "hair trigger", or bad marksmanship, no one knows. Burr, however, took deadly aim and fatally wounded Hamilton. He was charged with murder in New York, where he lived, and in New Jersey where the duel took place, but neither charge was ever brought to trial. Burr completed his term as vice president, but his reputation never recovered. His political career in ruins, he migrated west. Scandal continued to follow him until his death in 1836.

The pistols used in the duel still survive today. They changed hands several times before being purchased by the Chase Manhattan Bank in 1930, and today remain on display in a Manhattan branch of J.P. Morgan Chase and Company.

Six High School and College Party Theme Ideas

Let's face it students, we're only at college so we can party right? Instead of throwing a boring normal party, consider one of these fun college party theme ideas. You will be remembered in perpetuity!

1. Hollywood - Your Hollywood theme party will be remembered forever by your buddy's. You could hire a professional photographer to take a glamour shot of your guests as they arrive in front of a backdrop. Perhaps a red carpet can lead up to your entrance?

2. Toga - Toga parties are college favorites due to their ease and cost effectiveness. You need to recreate an ancient Greek or Roman setting perhaps with pillars and busts etc. The toga is extremely simple to make, it can in fact be a white bed sheet and you are set.

3. Mexican - Get some Mexican flags for your venue. Red, white and green balloons for the 3 flag colors. Send your invitations out on mini Mexican sombreros. Cacti are very cheap and easy to maintain after the party. Also you could get a giant inflatable cactus.

4. James Bond - Hire a Russian security guard to check for concealed weapons on entrance. Perhaps you could have a Casino sub theme for your party like in Casino Royale and many other Bond films.

5. Hawaiian - Ladies can wear a full grass skirt and lei, plenty of flowers in their hair etc. Guys, sandals and Hawaiian print shirts. Hire a professional cocktail waiter to make such favourites as the Hawaiian Heartbreaker and the Aloha.

6. French - Draw on a thin moustache for this theme and play French cafe music. Drink fancy wine and eat cheese on French loaf. The costumes will be hilarious with many people looking very similar. Don't forget the onion necklace!

Pirate party games for children

We've put together some of the best pirate themed games for children. Some of these will require a little planning and organization and honestly, any time spent on preparation will be well rewarded on the day of the party.

Pin the eye patch on the Pirate

Preparation required: Large Pirate Face and Self Adhesive Pirate Eyepatches
This game comes in a number of guises, probably the most well know in pin the tail on the donkey. As we all know, the simple traditional children's games are always popular as they are easy to understand and the result is quickly known. For this version you will need to either draw a large pirate face - a simple circle will do, and using some simply made eye patches with self adhesive backing ask the budding Capt Jack's to stick/pin the eye patch onto the Pirate's face.

If you are artistic and want to offer your wall some extra protection you could draw and colour the pirate's body and legs. A roll of sugar paper or wallpaper lining paper should do.

Pirate Peg Leg

Preparation required: Access to Music
Based on another classic, musical statues, this is a simple and easy game and is an easy game to arrange making it invaluable as a last minute time filler. The game requires you to play music whilst the pirates perform a jig, when you stop the music, the pirates have to balance on one leg.

What be yer Name?

Preparation Required: Pirate Name Sticker for each Child and a simple Scoresheet
Create a number of silly pirate themed names - one for each of the pirate's attending the party, and have these in a bag or container so that as each guest arrives they can select one at random. As the names are selected, enter them on your scoresheet and give out the name sticker. The guest must be called by their Pirate name for the remainder of the party. If you want, you can score the 'slip ups' and the pirate(s) making the least can get a prize - this keeps the game active for the entire party.

Where be the Treasure?

Preparation Required: Hidden Treasure (tokens or chocolate money) and Pirate Maps (optional)
If you haven't linked a treasure hunt to your invitations - see previous article, you can organise a fun treasure hunt in your party area. Before the party starts, hide sufficient treasure around the venue so that each guest will be able to find something. Depending on the size of your venue and the number of little pirates around you can either just let them search for the hidden treasure or you could make it more complicated by creating pirate treasure maps.

If you have created treasure maps, then each pirate should find their own treasure trove, if it's a general treasure hunt then each pirate needs to understand that they should stop when they have found one piece of treasure. For older pirates you could vary the type of treasure so that this introduces the 'stick or twist' element to the game - same rule applies; one piece of treasure only.

Avast there Pirates

Preparation Required: Access to music
Another simple to arrange time filling game and one sure to rid them there pirates of some energy! Whilst the music plays all of the pirates perform a jig, when you stop the music you, or the nominated pirate captain, shouts out a command as to where the rest of the crew are to run. The commands should be Port (left), Starboard (right), Bow (front), Stern (back).

Depending on the age of the pirates you could label these beforehand - perhaps using coloured symbols for the youngest.

Flapping Fish

Preparation required: Large Fish Shape per Team cut from Lightweight Paper
A simple game but one that can lead to frustration if the distance to cover is too long, the idea of the game being to fan the lightweight fish shape from the start to the finish. The choice of paper is critical, the lighter it is the harder the game becomes.

We hope you enjoy these games and that you create some great memories for all of the pirates at your party. Although these games work well on their own and can be played by any group of children, there is something special about watching pirates playing them. Have a great party and enjoy it.

Blackpool's Main Attractions

The seaside town of Blackpool, a major tourist hub since the 19th century, continues to be heavily dependent on tourism. There is so much to see in Blackpool that is uniquely its own. The following are only some of its leading attractions.

1. The North, Central and South Piers

It is no secret that the way to judge the stature of a seaside town is by its pier, and Blackburn has three of them: the North Pier, Central Pier and South Pier.

Built in 1863, the North Pier is the oldest and largest of the three coastal piers. It was mainly used for leisure instead of seafaring and is one of the last remaining piers designed by Eugenius Birch, who built 14 piers in all.

The Central Pier, built in 1868, came about largely due to the success of the North Pier. The Blackpool South Jetty Company, established one year after the North Pier opened in 1864, hired Richard Laidlaw, the North Pier contractor, to build a new pier near the now-defunct Blackpool Central railway station and a scant 500 metres to the south of Blackpool Tower.

The South Pier, built in 1893, was spurred by the ever-growing popularity of Blackpool as a tourist resort. Naturally, development eventually reached the south shore and construction of the third pier began in 1892. It is also the site of the famous American carousel built by John Outhwaite on sand dunes that has drawn hordes of holidaymakers. A pair of massive fires in 1958 and 1964 caused major damage to the South Pier. These were the same fires that razed the Grand Pavilion to the ground.

2. The Blackpool Tower

The Blackpool Tower is the main attraction of this famous seaside resort, especially given its superb beachfront location. During the traditional illuminations each year, the tower shines magnificently and offers a superb vantage point for enjoying the colourful lighting displays that adorn the town and seafront. The Tower complex also boasts the renowned Tower Ballroom and the world famous 'Mighty Wurlitzer Organ' whose melodious notes can still be heard during the holiday seasons.

Built in May 1894, this 518-foot-tall structure was inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris and is a member of the World Federation of Great Towers.

While the Eiffel Tower is a free-standing structure, the Blackpool Tower is not quite so, although this is a common misconception. This is because its base is strategically hidden by the building that houses the Blackpool Tower circus.

There are two lifts that lead to the apex of the Blackpool Tower, where there are four viewing platforms that provide visitors with a breathtaking view of Blackpool and surrounding areas such as North Wales, Cumbria, Lancashire, Winter Hill and the Isle of Man. There were actually 14 platforms in all, including enclosed ones, when the tower was rebuilt in 1900.

A Union flag usually flies proudly atop the tower, which is painted dark red except during its 1994 centenary when it was gold. During illuminations, the tower glows brightly from the light of one hundred lamps.

3. Pleasure Beach, Blackpool

This amusement park near South Pier was inaugurated in 1896 as an American Style Amusement Park whose main objective, according to its founder, Alderman William George Bean, was "to make adults feel like children again and to inspire gaiety of a primarily innocent character."

About six million visitors come to Pleasure Beach, Blackpool each year, drawn by its wide array of rides, ranging from traditional wooden and small family rides to modern steel roller coasters and highly-advanced thrillers as well as some rides that have been around for generations but are still in good working order. In recent years, Pleasure Beach, Blackpool has also installed ongoing ice shows and a casino.

One attractive thing about Pleasure Beach, Blackpool is that it seems to be constantly evolving and visitors are often amazed that there is something new every time they visit.

4. Blackpool Illuminations

Illuminations are an electric light festival held in several cities in England during Autumn. The Blackpool Illuminations are the biggest such light show in the UK, running for 66 days in September to early November each year and stretching beyond 10 kilometers. They have been thrilling thousands of people each year since 1879.

Each year, there is a "Switch On" ceremony that includes live entertainment featuring a host of acts such as Peter Kay in 2006. Over a million bulbs are used during the Blackpool Illuminations, with every kind of light display imaginable, including neon, lasers, fiber optics, searchlights and floodlighting.

The 2006 Blackpool Illuminations featured over 500 scenic designs, including characters and "moving" objects, which only seem to move because of the effect of blinking lights.

5. Sandcastle Waterworld

Sitting opposite Pleasure Beach, Sandcastle Waterworld is the leading indoor waterpark in the UK. Launched in 1896, the park's four huge waterslides and dozens of smaller ones as well as a lazy river. There is also a pirate galleon and the Caribbean Storm Treehouse.

Sandcastle Waterworld also houses Master Blaster, the longest indoor roller coaster ride in the world.

The Princess and the Frog Party Ideas

The Princess and the Frog Party Ideas...perfect pretty party ideas for a girls birthday party. If your daughter loves the Disney Princesses, this just might be the ideal party theme for her birthday.

The Princess and the Frog is an enchanting tale beloved by all ages. Meet Tiana and Prince Naveen and find out about the fun party ideas you can get from the newest Walt Disney Princess movie. A Princess and the Frog party can be held outdoors, weather permitting, with a main table set up in your yard or garden area. Think "Fairy Tale" and Walt Disney and you will come up with some great ideas for kids birthday party fun.

If your party is to be held outdoors, you may want to add cute garden decor, wind chimes, butterflies, pastel streamers, and outdoor candles to prepare your yard for the theme. Anything that will make it dreamy and in line with the story. You can also use toy frogs, home-made lily pads, and huge tissue paper flowers for a magical touch.

Princess and Frog Invitations:

Creative invitations can help to build the excitement level that leads up to the "big day." It is always fun to make invitations by hand. In keeping with the princess theme, you could cut a tiara or crown out of gold or silver card stock and decorate it with plastic jewels and glitter. Party details can be written in "royal" calligraphy.

Another option would be to cut out frog shapes, gluing on the eyes and tongue. Write the party details on the front or back of the frog. You can even use royal wording such as, "Hear ye, hear ye, Princess (party girl) officially summon you by Royal Decree to attend her birthday gala on (date) at (location)."

Princess Party Food Ideas:

In keeping with a royal look, serve the party food on pretty trays and tiered plate stands. Some of the items can include fruit trays with yogurt dip, finger sandwiches cut in the shape of hearts, and sparkling juice in pretend champagne glasses.

If the party is for a little girls birthday, a castle cake would be perfect. This can easily be made with two square cakes stacked into two layers with frosting in between and several ice cream cones placed upside down on the top of the cake with little flags sticking out of the top for a finishing touch. The entire cake can be frosted in pink for a princess or use the green and lavender colors found in the Princess and the Frog party supplies.

Princess Party Games:

Traditional games can be easily adapted to fit your theme. For example, Pin the Tail on the Donkey can become, "Pin the Frog on the Lily Pad" and Simon Says can become, "The Princess Says." Even Duck, Duck, Goose can be transformed into "Frog, Frog, Princess." If your guests are up for some relay races, a game of "Leap Frog" would be perfect!

Princess or Frog pinatas are also very easy to find and fill with goodies. The fun pinata game is a safe and fun game when you choose a pull string model or buy a pinata pull string conversion kit. Little girls will enjoy getting the goodies you put inside.

Princess Party Craft Idea:

Your guests can make a sweet treat to take home with them. An edible necklace can be created with licorice strings, round candies, and cereal. After the creation is complete, place the treasures in little baggies for your guests to take with them.

Of course, this game can also be moved indoors, if need be. The oversized flowers, streamers and some colorful helium balloons will help to transform your party area into a magical princess and frog setting. Whether your princess is 4 or 14, she will absolutely love this party theme.

Have a "Boston Tea Party" How to Ideas

A Boston tea party themed event will make for a very memorable Fourth of July. Here are some Fourth of July party ideas to help you create a fun and entertaining day for all.

Mixing a little history with some fun is a great way to learn something new. Consider asking everyone to dress in the clothes of the era. There is lots of variety here, as there were the sailors and those that worked on the ship, the colonists, the town crier, and of course, the Sons of Liberty disguised as Mohawk Indians, that came into town under the dark of night and threw all that tea over board!

Here are a few guide lines to what the American colonial wore:
o Tri corner hats
o A white loose fitting shirt to wear under a vest or a cloak
o Vest and or Cape
o Pants, use corduroy pants, rolled up to the knee
o Socks long socks from knee length
o Black shoes (with buckle if possible)
o Carry a fife, drum, or hand held bells

Female attire would include:
o A mop cap or kerchief, at times a hat
o A long dress
o Apron
o A tucker which is a piece of linen, muslin, or the like, worn by women about the neck and shoulders.

If you think dressing in era costumes is not your thing, consider asking everyone to make and wear a hat from the era. You may even consider a project for the children that will be attending. The can make hats from supplies you provide. In those days, it was considered treason to go against the British King. If you were charged with treason, it meant a death sentence. The Sons of Liberty disguised themselves to avoid being charged with treason.

Making Mohawk headdresses can be a fun as well as a learning activity for the kids, as well as the adults in the group. You may even consider putting on a little war paint.

To go along with your theme of "Boston Tea Party" you may consider re enacting the tea being thrown overboard. Place signs, "No taxation, without representation" around party area. Find empty cardboard boxes and make tea signs on the boxes. Tea was sold in large blocks in those days. Allow the children to throw the tea, out of the designated boat area and into the designated water area. It is a great time to discuss how freedom of speech and the right to assemble is something that our forefathers fought so hard
to accomplish. That is why we enjoy the freedoms we do today.

Some activities that children participated in colonial times may be activities you introduce at your Boston tea party. Grass bowling, bobbing for apples, playing tag are activities adults can enjoy with their children.

More on Have a "Boston Tea Party" Fourth of July Party Ideas

In keeping with theme you may consider a Boston tea party game of jeopardy. Do a little research and make index cards up with the questions and answers. You will be able to find some fun and silly facts that will stump every one and cause a few laughs.

In keeping with your theme you may want to make it a red, white and blue color scheme. Greet your guests with small flags, the kids with bags of red, white and blue confetti or a bag of red, white and blue jelly beans.

Food is always on everyone's mind at a party. The Boston Tea Party was about the taxation of the colonist's beloved drink, tea. The amount of tea that was thrown over board, in present day terms is well worth over 1 million dollars. So celebrate with tea!

Make iced tea lemonade, watermelon spiked tea slush, serve Boston iced tea with its tart and tangy cranberry taste. You can make a great and tasty barbecue sauce with tea that is sure to please. And don't forget about dessert. Fresh fruit with a tea syrup or raspberry tea ice cream will have your guests talking about your Boston tea party for years to come. Enjoy your Boston tea party and the Fourth of July party ideas. You will create a memorable and fun learning experience for everyone!

Travel With Kids in California on the Cheap!

Grab the kids and travel for cheap to one of California's most beautiful State Parks, Pt. Lobos, the place that inspired one of the greatest pirate stories of all time, "Treasure Island".

Aye! In 1879 Robert Louis Stevenson visited the Pt Lobos area (near Carmel, California) and was so inspired by the beauty of the landscape that he used it as the setting for his story of adventure, treachery and blatant skullduggery.

The original name of Pt Lobos was Punta de los Lobos Marinos, named for the California sea lion often seen (and heard!) on the offshore islands. The area is unique because just offshore the ocean floor drops and gives rise to unusual tidal effects with high levels of oxygen in the water; this attracts a variety of plant and animal life ranging from high plankton concentrations to mammals. The area was established as a state park in 1933, and currently is a state reserve containing almost 400 land acres and 750 underwater acres which in 1992 became part of the Monterey Bay National Marine sanctuary.

Hollywood discovered Pt. Lobos early in the century. The first movie filmed here was "Valley of the Moon" directed by Hobart Bosworth in 1914 followed by another fifty-five films "shot" here and in the immediate environs including Victor Fleming's "Treasure Island" in 1934, Hitchcock's "Rebeccah" in 1940 and Minelli's "The Sandpiper" in 1964.

As Robert Louis Stevenson wrote in his novel, "I have never seen the sea quiet round Treasure Island. The sun might blaze overhead, the air be without a breath, the surface smooth and blue, but still these great rollers would be running along all the external coast, thundering and thundering by day and night; and I scarce believe there is one spot in the island where a man would be out of earshot of their noise".

Take the kids and camp, hike the area, take a few photos, and save a little money to boot. And if you listen carefully, maybe you'll hear a sea chantey or two.

Disney Orlando Theme Parks

Walt Disney World is a place that seems magical. It is a world set apart from the real word where childhood reigns over all. Yet, Disney World can be daunting for any parent who takes their children on a Disney World Adventure. Therefore I present my guide to Disney Orlando Theme Parks to help the parents find their way around. The Walt Disney World Unofficial Guide contains information on the theme "lands," the rides and the must sees in each area.

Magic Kingdom

The Guide to Disney Orlando Theme Parks starts off with the most famous, iconic and majestic of the four theme parks: the Magic Kingdom.

Main Street USA

Upon entrance to the Magic Kingdom, you will find yourself on the streets of Main Street, USA. Main Street is the center of it all. This one street branches out to the six mini worlds of the Magic Kingdom: Adventure Land, Frontier Land, Liberty Square, Fantasy Land, Mickey's Toontown Fair, and Tomorrow Land. Cinderella's Castle is at the center of it all. On Main Street, you and your family can take a railroad ride on the Walt Disney World Railroad line. This railroad has stops in Frontier Land and Mickey's Toontown Fair. Main Street USA is also the site of parades. During the Daytime, there are the Main Street Trolley Parade and the Disney Dreams Come True Parade. At Nighttime, there is the SpectroMagic Parade. This parade features bright floats that light up the nighttime sky as well as lively music that echoes throughout the park. This is a can't miss event! Of course your favorite Disney characters make appearances. The Genie from Aladdin and Sebastian from the Little Mermaid all appear on the floats as well as classics such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

Mickey's Toontown Fair

Mickey's Toontown Fair is located in the North east section of Magic Kingdom between Fantasy Land and Tomorrow Land. There is a stop here on the Walt Disney World Railroad. You can board this railroad to Frontier Land or Main Street USA. The Toontown is the home of all toons, so have your camera ready. Famous cartoon characters such as Goofy, Donald, and Mickey are bound to make an appearance here. You and your family can take a tour through Mickey Mouse's House or ride a mild roller coaster on "The Barnstormer at Goofy's Wiseacre Farm."

Frontier Land

Frontier Land is located on the West Side of Magic Kingdom sandwiched between Liberty Square and Adventure Land. The Walt Disney World Railroad line has a stop in Frontier Land. Frontier Land features one of the more famous attractions in the Magic Kingdom, Splash Mountain. The guests ride a log flume 52 1/2 feet into the air and then drop down at a 45 degree angle. As the log drops from such a high location, there is a 40 inch height requirement. The log drops into a pond called Briar Patch. Riders in the front usually get soaked the most, but lookout! There have been reports of the whole log getting soaked. How about a indoor roller coaster ride to dry you and your family off after Splash Mountain? Enter Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The ride takes place on cars resembling locomotives and features locales both indoors and outdoors on a huge mountain and abandoned mining town.

After these big thrills, it is best to sit down, relax and watch a show: Country Bear Jamboree! The Country Bear Jamboree features robotic, but real-looking bears that sing country folk songs for the whole family. Once the merry show has ended, the family can take a raft to Tom Sawyer Island where they can enjoy an incredible walk through attraction featuring elements from pirate and Tom Sawyer lore. And obviously who kind of Frontier would it be without a little arcade shooting range? Experience the Frontierland Shootin' Arcade with 97 targets and 35 shots from the infrared rifle for one dollar.

Adventure Land

Adventure Land is located on the south west of the Magic Kingdom. The theme of Adventure Land is the far away worlds seen in such Disney movies as Tarzan and Disney properties such as Indiana Jones. Adventure Land takes you to the jungles and deserts of Africa and Asia. Here, you and your family can board the Jungle Cruise Ride. This ride simulates being on a riverboat in the rivers of the Amazon. Along the ride, robotic animals, resembling the animals found in the Amazon in real life, are found along the shore of the river.

Next, you can visit The Enchanted Tiki Room. This is a short ten minute show hosted by two birds from Disney Lore, Iago from Aladdin and Zazu from the Lion King. After sitting down and enjoying the show, your family can be well rested for The Magic Carpets of Aladdin. Your kids can get into little vehicles that resemble the Magic Carpet from Aladdin. These carpets are attached to a center that lifts the vehicles up into the air and turns them around and around like a merry go around.

The ride that inspired the movie Pirates of the Caribbean is found right in Adventure Land. And obviously enough, this ride is called Pirates of the Caribbean. This is an indoor boat ride as guests float through spectacular pirate scenes featuring cannon blasts, buried treasure and other surprises that I won't spoil here. Beware: there are two hair-raising drops on this ride!

Samoa - An Itinerary For a Week In This South Pacific Paradise

If you are looking for a beach vacation on a tropical white sandy beach, overhung with coconut palms, then this is your island! Or should I say.....islands. Upolu is the main island where Apia, the capital, is located. Savaii, the bigger island is quite a different experience, and not to be missed. There are several much smaller islands dotted along the coast.

While you will want to spend much of your time on one of the glorious beaches, there is much more to do in Samoa. Below is a suggested itinerary for a week .You would be best to hire a car for sightseeing. You will want to take time each day to relax around a pool, or at a beach. Enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of the many wonderful, open air restaurants and RELAX!

Day 1 - Arriving at Faleolo Airport, you will instantly feel the heat! Consistently around 26-27 degrees celsius, night temperatures rarely drop below 23 degrees. It is about a 45 minute drive into Apia. You will immediately start to relax, with your first experience of colourful villages and crystal clear turquoise water stretching to the white foam of the reef. Once you have settled in, it is a good time for a brief wander around the town, or sampling a Vailima beer, around the pool. Enquire which night the Fiafia is held. There are usually only one or two nights weekly when hotels put these on, so you need to plan in advance.

Day 2 - Morning - Explore Apia, including the markets. There are two markets - the Beach Rd Market on the waterfront near the Tusitala(Kitano) Hotel is for
clothing lavalavas
tapa cloth
carved wooden goods including the traditional kava bowl
jewellery made from shell, coconut husk and seeds

You will find that generally they do not bargain. Ask if they will give you a cheaper price for two and they will invariably reply that their boss is not here today so they cannot do this. It is worth walking down to Marketi Fou the fruit market, where you can wander amongst the locals as they do their normal daily shopping. Samoa does not have tropical fruits such as pineapples and mangos year round. They have two three week seasons annually. Bananas and oranges are always available, with other fruits such as passionfruit, guavas and vi fruit at different times.

Afternoon - If you are keen to snorkel, Pololo Deep is on the edge of town and the only beach near Apia. You will find it best at mid to low tide.

Day 3- Morning- Visit Vailima, home of Robert Louis Stevenson, on Cross Island Road. He was Samoa's much loved Tusitala - "teller of tales" , and lived here for the last few years of his life. You can look through the wonderful colonial house which has been restored, and do the 40 minute walk to the top of Mt Vaea, Stevenson's final resting place, with magnificent views over Apia.

Afternoon - After lunch it is a good time to take a forty minute coastal drive out to Piula for a cooling swim in the freshwater natural pool, which flows into a cave. Situated in the grounds of a beautifully renovated church, you can enjoy the pool, looking out to sea over the narrow rock wall, that separates the two. The pool closes at 4. o'clock, when the local women bring the washing from the boys church boarding school down, and the fish come out from their hiding places.

Day 4 - All Day - Hire a car and drive over the hill, through the rainforest.Have a look at the Bahai temple at the top of the hill, then go and down to Coconuts Resort where you could have morning tea or lunch. Leaving Coconuts, follow the coast road back to Apia, via the many villages and beaches. If you have time to detour to Togitogi Falls, they are beautiful.Or you may like to come back via Papasea - Sliding Rocks. Best when there has been a lot of rain.

Day 5 - Morning - Take the car ferry to Savaii. There are many accommodation options from beach fales at Stevensons or Janes, Savaii Lagoon..... a middle option or Le Logoto for a more luxurious experience.

Afternoon - Only 2 kilometres along the road is Satoalepai village - where you can swim with turtles. This is a very beautiful place, and while the turtles are in captivity, they have a big pool, and are well cared for. They are very friendly, and it was a highlight of my trip.

Day 6- All Day - Drive around Savaii - Plan to stop at
Saleaula Lava Fields - an amazing insight into the effects of the eruptions of Mt Matavanu between 1905 and 1911.
Alofaaga Blowholes - You will need to check the tides as you will want as near to full tide as possible for the best viewing of the blowholes. These are some of the best you will see anywhere in the world! You will pay $5WS each which includes a local guide. Carry on to Vaisala Hotel via villages, and beaches. This is the best option for a meal, unless you take a picnic basket.
Stop at the ruins of the village destroyed by Cyclone Ofa.
NOTE: You will want to allow plenty of time for photo stops. This is a very photogenic country, and Savaii has some wonderful spots for photographers to indulge their hobby!

Day 7- All Day - Experience a night in a beach fale. This could be on Savaii, or after taking the ferry back to Upolu, around the coast where you have several choices of beach fales. If basic is not for you, you may prefer upmarket Seabreeze Resort at Paradise Cove, with excellent snorkelling and probably the best view of live coral on the island.

Day 8 - To Airport

Visit the National Maritime Museum Cornwall and Go Under the Sea

Cornwall's National Maritime Museum in Falmouth is a must-see for visitors.

Built on the site of an old boat-building yard, it is a highlight to any trip to the area and will teach visitors more about the local area and its heritage.

So if you are looking for a day out or an activity to occupy the kids then this is a great option.

The museum is housed in a landmark building that was designed by the winners of a Cornish competition in 1996.

Long and Kentish created the building and its structure is in keeping with the boating history that it contains.

The National Maritime Museum aims to tell the story of the importance of boats and seafaring for the people of Cornwall over the years.

It is a great source of education and also a very entertaining day out.

One of the highlights of a trip here has to be the popular exhibition Under the Sea.

Here visitors can learn all they want about different types of diving, shipwrecks, seafaring, submarines and war in the sea.

The exhibition explores the depths of the ocean with visitors and lets them learn about the world's first submarine - which was created in 1620 and designed by Cornelius Drebbel - as well as famous shipwrecks like the SS Mohegan and other fascinating facts.

If you are interested in diving then you can learn about commercial diving, going underwater as a sport, during war and just for fun and there is also information about free diving without breathing apparatus.

Details about Japanese and Korean pearl divers is also displayed and the exhibition is filled with interesting theories and facts, such as the claim that women are better at diving than men.

Jacques Cousteau, a huge icon in the diving world, is also celebrated through film footage and information on his life.

Other highlights in the museum include the interactive Nav Station gallery, the Waterfront - where you can control your own remote-controlled boat - and the Main Hall, which includes a flotilla of small boats and sailing yachts.

There is also the shop, where visitors can buy souvenirs and books that tell them more about the sea and boating.

Feel More Secure With Fellowes Microshred Paper Shredders

When you need a shredder that will give you an unbelievable amount of security, the name you should turn to is Fellowes. In particular, you need to look at the company's microshred devices. These machines have very high security ratings in addition to other features that make them easy to use. So let's take a look at some of Fellowes' microshred products.

If you're unfamiliar with the term "microshred," it's simply another type of paper shredding style, such as strip- or cross-cut. However, microshred machines can offer much, much more security than either of those shredding styles. For example, a standard cross-cut device can turn a sheet of letter-sized paper into about 400 pieces that measure 5/32" x 1-1/2". Meanwhile, a microshred unit can turn your document into almost 3,000 particles that are extremely tiny. (They tend to measure 5/64" x 25/64".) Think of how secure your information will be when you choose a microshred device!

Speaking of choosing a device, you might be wondering which machines you should consider. Fellowes has a couple of new products you're sure to love. Here's the lowdown on two of them.

PowerShred MS-460Ci
This shredder is perfect if you need a device for yourself or to share with 1 or 2 others in a common workspace. The MS-460Ci has a Level 4 security rating which makes it perfect for getting rid of extremely confidential documents. It can shred up to 12 sheets at a time, and it can even destroy credit cards and CD's for even more protection. Plus it won't jam up on you and it will turn itself off if you let your fingers get too close to the feed opening. You'll also get to enjoy having a large 7-gallon waste compartment that has a see-through window. Finally the MS-460Ci has a 7-year warranty on the cutting mechanism. It doesn't get much better than that.
PowerShred MS-470Ci

The MS-470Ci offers many of the same features as the MS-460Ci, including Level 4 security, jam-proof operation, thoughtful safety features, and a lengthy warranty. But while the MS-460Ci is good for personal use, the MS-470 is perfect for use in a busy office. This device can hold up to 16 gallons of waste and it can run continuously, even when shredding plastic items such as credit cards. This device is ideal for use among 3 or 5 people, and it operates quietly so nearby colleagues won't be distracted. Plus it will keep all of your shreds - even the fly-away ones - inside of the machine so you won't have to clean up a big mess. And let's not forget that the MS-470Ci's waste bin can hold up to about 80% more shreds than a similar size bin in a cross-cut machine. This is doable because the shreds are so small.

Overall, Fellowes microshred paper shredders are the cream of the crop when you want a machine with user-friendly features, a great warranty, and an unbelievable amount of security. If document security is what you need, one of these products can give it to you.
