Pirate Attacks in the Modern World

Sea pirates seemed to be brave robbers and fearless adventurers in children's books. Pirate attacks in the modern world are made by dangerous criminals who become more and more impudent. There were 325 pirate attacks registered on the whole planet in 2004 and 445 attacks a year before. Experts explained the decline of cases with activation of patrolling of Malaysia and Indonesia coasts.

Pirate Attacks are Getting More Cruel Strait of Malacca between Indonesia and Malaysia is a long, narrow and very busy passage. It accounts for more than a quarter of the whole world's volume of cargo transportation and a quarter of all pirate attacks. Decisive actions are required from the governments of this region. Then the cases of pirate attacks began to increase again. International Marine Bureau (IMB) reported that the number of ships attacked by pirates at blue water increased 10% in 2007 as compared with the previous year. 263 pirate attackes in 2007 were registered against 239 in 2006. This is foremost due to incidents of pirate attacks near the shores of East cental and Western Africa. The number of pirate attacks by East Central Africa seashores grew from 10 to 31, by Western Africa - from 12 to 42. The all-time number of taken hostages was 154 people near Somali seashores. IMB concludes that piracy became profitable business for the habitants of the poor African countries. Other "hotbeds of tension" are west seashores of Asia and South China Sea. Reports about pirate attacks in the Middle East, East Africa, Indian waters, South America are more freqient lately. Pirate attacks are accompanied by violence more frequently, specialists specify. Director of the IMB called most cases marine hooliganism. 64 people were killed or injured in 2007, while 17 people suffered in 2005. International Marine Bureau warned especially the crews of ships which use routes along the seashores of Western Africa. They should be extremely cautious with fishing boats asking for help.

Pirates Attack Different Ships Pirates furrow the seas on the boats with powerful outboard motors and attack the first met decently looking ship as chance offers. Pirates board this ship by means of bamboo poles or ropes. Small ships and yachts are also suffering from pirate attacks. 53-year-old Peter Blake, known yachtsman and Greenpeace activist, was killed in December, 2001, at Brazil seashores during a piratic attack. Attacks of large merchant ships also happen, but rarer. They are the most attractive target for the pirates. IMB director, Captain Mukundan, said: "These operations are enough difficult, three-four ships are involved in them. The attack is made out of them. Pirates are usually well prepared physically and quite merciless in achieving of their aims". Responsibility for such attacks was laid on Indonesian rebels in the past, but they are not considered the main offenders now. "Difficult pirate attacks are financed by the organized crime, with groupings which have enough resources, - Captain Pottengal Mukundan explains. - They have networks by which they sell captured goods, and places where they can hold stolen members of crew to ransom". In a number of cases pirates killed crews with its full complement and took the management of ships upon themselves.

Pirates Attacked a Tanker In 1998 in the South China Sea they captured the Petro Ranger tanker and maid sailors to teach them how to steer the ship. Then they compelled one of hostages to write a new name on the side and changed the Singaporean flag to Honduranian one. The tanker moved a little bit further from Chinese seashore, and the oil was dumped to another ship. And when the tanker was ready for over- registering (what would allow pirates to sell it for 16 million dollars), members of the crew succeeded to notify Chinese authorities.

Anti-pirate Laws Experts say that anti-pirate laws are good, the problem is that they are executed badly. A license to steer a ship costs not so much money in poor countries. Authorities in small ports quite often don't check registration documents as careful as they should. Stolen ships with new "passports" practically evaporate and become ships-ghosts.

Regional problems, politics and complicated relations often interfere in the business. As the director of IMB said, Indonesian and Malaysian border guards, for instance, do not operate in territorial waters of each other, even if they chase suspected. "It plays into the hands of pirates, - Captain Mukundan adds. - As the measures against pirates are not very effective, they feel safe, more and more sure about their forces. It's very important that the law machinery assume the measures to authenticate performers of pirate attacks and punish them by the law".

Puff The Magic Dragon (Kyuhyun Super Junior)

I really love this song after Kyuhyun sing it at Super Show 2 in Malaysia.......His voice very beautiful...... Lyric:- Puff, the magic dragon, Lived by the sea And frolicked in the autumn mist In a land called Honah Lee. Little Jackie Paper Loved that rascal Puff, And brought him strings and sealing wax And other fancy stuff. Puff, the magic dragon Lived by the sea And frolicked in the autumn mist In a land called Honah Lee. Oh ! Puff, the magic dragon Lived by the sea And frolicked in the autumn mist In a land called Honah Lee. Together they would travel On a boat with billowed sail. Jackie kept a lookout perched On Puff's gigantic tail. Noble kings and princes Would bow whenever they came, Pirate ships would lower their flags When Puff roared out his name. Oh ! Puff, the magic dragon Lived by the sea And frolicked in the autumn mist In a land called Honah Lee. Oh ! Puff, the magic dragon Lived by the sea And frolicked in the autumn mist In a land called Honah Lee. A dragon lives forever, But not little girls and boys. Painted wings and giant rings Make way for other toys. One grey night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more And Puff that mighty dragon, He ceased his fearless roar. His head now bent in sorrow, Green scales fell like rain, And Puff no longer went to play Along that cheery lane. Without his life-long friend, Puff could not be brave, So Puff that mighty dragon Sadly slipped into his cave. Puff, the magic dragon Lived by the sea And frolicked in the autumn ...

St Augustine is a Historical Family Favorite

Long before St. Augustine became the family vacation paradise, it became St. Augustine in 1565. Now St. Augustine is one of Florida's favorite travel destination with beaches, attractions and historical significance.

There are so many Things to do in St. Augustine, the historic district is full of restaurants, coffee shops and small shops with craftsmen who are knowledgeable in the trades of the period. The Castillo de San Marcos, the historic Fort was built after the city was attacked by Pirates, the fort was never taken by force, only by treaty and was built of coquina rock, native to the area. The entrance to Castillo de San Marcos is heavily fortified and was surrounded by moat. Six different flags have flown over Castillo de San Marcos and you can view the Spanish and English barracks. On weekends, they fire the cannons in a demonstration.

The beaches of St. Augustine located on Anastasia Island home of Anastasia State Park. There is pier that is a favorite of fishermen and those who want a panoramic view of the beach. The beaches here are a favorite and considered by many the best Florida beaches.

There is also lighthouse on Anastasia Island which favorite for history loving tourist. It's 219 steps the top, you'll get a spectacular view of the surrounding area as the observation deck is 165 feet above sea-level. St. Augustine Lighthouse is one of the most popular Florida Lighthouses.

Pirate Rabbit Attacks Art Biennale in Venice - Coniglio Pirata Biennale Venezia

PIRATE ATTACK ON THE BIENNALE IN VENICE Thursday 7 June ::: Vernissage for the 52nd International Biennial Exhibition of Art in Venice An enormous Pirate Rabbit, almost 6 metres high, winged like the Lion of San Marco, with one eye covered with a classic pirate's eye patch, crossed the whole Canale della Giudecca on board a large raft, as far as the Giardini, the official venue of the Biennale, and from there - at around 6pm - it fired 52 cannon shots at the buildings of the Biennale. Then two rabbit-like pirates disembarked from the ship onto terra firma to raise the Jolly Roger, with the logo of a large "Vitruvian Rabbit" over the gardens, the place traditionally used to host the flags of all the nations. The pirate attack on the Biennale in Venice is an operation that is highly spectacular and symbolic, and is by the duo of Italian artists known as ConiglioViola (www.coniglioviola.com) and produced by bnd tomasorenoldibracco in Milan. A full-blown attack on the Art System in what is its most institutional fortress! The pirate attack on the Biennale is therefore to be read as an action of reappropriation - albeit an ironic and provocative one - in relation to an Art System that is often revealed to be "blind" and with one eye "blindfolded". But also a protest against an Italian Biennale from which - as always - Italian artists are almost exiled. The fact that a Winged Rabbit - an animal symbolising "cowardice" - is leading the pirate attack is no coincidence ...

Vallam Kali Boat Race

The one experience that you must not bypass while in Kerala are the exciting boat races. Come August/ September and watch the crazy snake boats flag off for the Vallam Kali from Alappuzha. Vallam Kali boat race is one of the most spectacular cultural event in Kerala that attract the tourists from far and wide.
The event is promoted as the major tourists attraction in the state of Kerala. It takes place on the last day of the seven day long Onam festival and is celebrated with great fervour and vigour. These dark, long graceful boats are seen to sit loaded with coconut fibre, copra or cashew on coconut island, but now they line up in full caparisoned glory to compete with one  another. Before the race, one could see the ceremonial water possessions with spectacular floats.     The credit for the popularity of the Vallam Kali boat race goes to the Pandit Jawahar Nehru who was so impressed by this colourful event that he instituted a Nehru Trophy for the race.
The electrifying boat race is enough to set the river on fire with thousand of enthusiastic people flocking the venue to enjoy the event. The main highlight of the event are the 100 feet long boats that are decorated beautifully by the local craftsmen, specially for this event. These boats are popularly known as the 'snake boats' and can accommodate 100 people at a time. Usually the musicians and singers accompany the oarsmen to keep the participants with high spirits.
There is an interesting story behind the colourful Vallam Kali boat race. The story goes that once 10 kilometres up the river Pamba from Aranmulla the head of the Katoor Mana, a Nambudiri family, offered his daily prayers and was waiting to feed a poor man to complete the ritual. After waiting for long, Brahmin closed his eyes and started praying to Lord Krishna. As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw a ragged boy standing before him. The Brahmin lovingly gave a bath to the boy, a new set of clothes and also a sumptuous meal.
To the utter surprise of the Brahmin, the boy vanished after having the meal. He searched for the boy and spotted him at the Aranmulla Temple but the boy disappeared again. Namboodari concluded that it was no ordinary boy, but God himself. To commemorate the event, he began to bring food to the Aranmulla temple every year during the time of Onam. And, to protect the food from the river pirates, Kovilans or snake boats used to accompany the entourage.  As the tradition gained popularity, the number of snake boats increased leading to the custom of a grand carnival called Snake Boat Race.
The objective behind the boat race is not winning the trophy but promoting unity and bondness of brotherhood among the people. Despite the hectic lifestyle, the love for these boat races in Kerala is still alive in the heart of people.

Blessed with a long coastline of about 220 kms, Spain has effectively harnessed the beach along this long coastline to offer more comforts to the tourist. At many places this long coast is dotted with tall mountains. Uniqueness of the beaches in Spain is that they are perfectly maintained. The sea water is crystal clear. In fact many beaches have been awarded the Blue flag denoting how neat the beaches are. The beaches have all the facilities like villas and apartments for those who want to spend the night near the beach, restaurants, long walking track, water sports, etc. Beach guards are always available for the safety of the tourist.
Some of the famous beaches in Spain are briefly discussed here:
Beach Calafell:
This beach is very close to Costa Dorada in the province of Catalonia. Known for its most imposing natural beauty, the Beach Calafell offers maximum recreation to the tourist. The golden sand of this beach perfectly matches with the beautiful environment around. There is an ancient castle and a hermitage and Liberian citadel which are dedicated to St. Michael. The castle has been built on a small hill which is very near to the sea. Historians are of the opinion that the castle was built to guard the city from pirates and other enemies crossing into the country through the sea route. There is also a theme park. During night time the fountains around this theme park are luxuriously lit and this presents a   wonderful experience. There are separate playing areas for children. Adults can enjoy water sports like skiing, boating, diving, etc. Shopping complex has many things to offer those who are fond of shopping. The cafes and hotels serve many local mouth watering specialties. Many of the villas and apartments are located at a distance of just about 50 meters from the sea.
Port Aventura:
This is yet another beautiful beach which is located near Barcelona. In fact this is one of the most preferred beaches amongst those who visit Barcelona. The beach is surrounded by beautiful nature. There are abundant water sports facilities. One of the most interesting features of this beach is the theme park where China, Polynesia, Mexico and Far West are the four themed regions. The ‘Fiestaventura' which marks the conclusion of the performance in the regional theaters is followed by a spectacular firework and laser display which makes the audience spellbound. Of course, if you want to spend your night on the beach, there are many villas and apartments.

Puff The Magic Dragon (Peter, Paul and Mary)---梁東屏

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land calledLee Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal Puff, and brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff. Oh Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail Jackie kept a lookout perched on Puff's gigantic tail, Noble kings and princes would bow whene'er they came, Pirate ships would lower their flags when Puff roared out his name. Oh Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee A dragon lives forever but not so little boys Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys. One grey night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more And Puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar. His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain, Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane. Without his life-long friend, Puff could not be brave, So Puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. Oh Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee

Painting Pelicans by Sherry Thurston

Sherry Thurston is showing her paintings of the local birds which everyone loves in Sneads Ferry, NC. The brown pelican is fun to paint for her. She has depicted them with a Pirate flag from an actual scene at Fulcher's Landing. This is a large comical piece that would be good for a party room or restaurant. Sherry also shows her classical painting "Her Majesty" in watercolor for the collector of her fine art paintings.

Club Penguin - Island Adventure Party Scavenger Hunt 2010 [HQ]

▅ ▆ ▇ READ THE DESCRIPTION █ ▇ ▆ ▅ Hey everyone! I tried to be the first one to upload the scavenger hunt cheat guide but people always beat me to it. I've edited this so it would be a short video and quick to the point. I don't want to take up much of your time and I especially do not like those cheat videos where it takes forever for them to show you where the paper boat is at. So feel free to pause whenever in the video. I've also listed where each paper boat is at for you eager CP freaks out there: 1. The campfire's roaring, the tea is poured, and in the bushes this boat is stored - Forest, right next to the map icon 2. Blue flags are flying on this sandy shore. The boat is anchored above the door. - The Beach, right next to the mail icon 3. Pirate ships battle! Cannon balls woosh! The boat's taking cover behind a bush! - Snow Forts, behind the bush by the Stadium 4. To find this boat, you must begin underground where mermaids swim - (shortcut) Forest, hover cursor over big rock, go down the ladder, its located in between the two waterfalls. 5. To find this boat without a scuffle, look to the bandana of a pirate puffle - The Plaza, on the puffle billboard 6. To find this next boat just look up, inside a giant wooden cup - The Town, in a wooden post sitting outside the coffee shop 7. This next boat's high up in the air, hidden near a revolving chair - Ski Village, above the TOURS sign 8. This last boat's been in a tree awhile, hidden on a deserted isle - Iceberg ...

Joy Toys

Joy Toys began production in the 1920s. The early teddies were fully jointed, made of mohair and with woodwool stuffing and glass eyes.

By the 1930s, the neck joints were no longer movable. It was also then that the 'Joy Toys nose' was first used, wherein an outer stitch on each side was made longer than the rest of the nose stitches. Kapok was used as the stuffing. Dolls were also produced, often made with cloth-mask faces and felt bodies.

The happy Joy Toys smile first appeared on the teddies from the 1950s. Still jointed, the arms and legs were stumpier, with synthetic mohair blends or synthetic plush being popular fabrics. Animals, with the same sweet expression, were also manufactured, in a great range of shapes.

During the 1960s, the machine-washable teddy was developed. Completely unjointed, of synthetic fur, they originally had glass eyes, but soon after were made with click-lock plastic safety eyes.

When tariffs were removed on imported toys by the Australian government, JT was unable to compete with the influx of cheap Asian toys, and closed its doors in 1976.

Labels:

The labels used by Joy Toys varied, according to the date the toy was produced.
-1920s-40s-green embroidered.
-1950s-60s-green printed.
-1960s-70s-red or purple printed.

Values:

The earliest teddies are now valued between $250 - $1200. Those from the 1970s, though, can be bought for between $30 - $100. Mohair dogs from the 1940s or 50s are valued from $60 - $110 whereas newer versions in synthetic fabrics are purchasable for under $20!
